Practice For Baby

Such a good little mama...

going good

Eli told Iris he's the only one that is big enough to hold the baby.

He's probably right.

Blasted Chicken!

This is about the only baby toy Iris will play with.

Baby toys are beneath her, you see. She'd rather play with my camera, or the garbage, or her toothbrush.

She has no interest in pushing the levers and buttons to make the animals pop up.

She waits for Eli or me to pop them up and then she brutally shuts them in.

She especially hates the chicken.

I can hold down the button so the door will not latch, and she gets *really* angry.

(trust me. that is her "raging mad" face.)

Keeping Vigil

Every evening at about 7:25 I tell the kids it's time to watch for Daddy.

Iris likes the coffee table under the window so she can see.

They sit on the table, and Iris chants "Da-da, Da-da", while Eli asks loudly of each car that drives by "Is that Daddy?!" There is often a stirring rendition of "I'm So Glad When Daddy Comes Home"

When Daddy comes home, they run to the garage to kiss him, and Iris steals his badge - it is a pretty necklace.

Odd Game

Iris invented a new game that has kept her busy for literally minutes.

She fills Eli's Spider-man mask with socks, then dumps it out and starts over.

I'm not pretending to understand it, just reporting... :)

Strange New World

Having been born in February, Iris' outdoor time has been somewhat limited...

We had a very very nice day yesterday, so I thought it would be nice to let her play in the front yard while Eli rode his bike in the driveway.

That lasted about five minutes before Iris decided to explore.

She found brother's fort

She spent some quality time in the garden

Played on her swing

A strange noise led her to the chicken coop. I told her they were birds, but I don't think she believed me.

Rosie came along for some of the trip

I'm a little worried about this summer... Eli spends most summer days outside, and I don't believe we'll be able to keep Ms. Iris in, either...

Iris loves fruit.

Yes, she finished the strawberry that is bigger than her head.

She loves berries, melon, apples, grapes, bananas, pineapple, every fruit we've tried so far.

By far blueberries are her favorite fruit. She will eat as many as I put in front of her.

(and they do amazing things to her diaper...)

Where'd You Get The Coconuts?

When Scott and Denise came for dinner on Sunday, Jeremy decided to open up a coconuts for the kids' entertainment.

He tried a corkscrew

and a paring knife

before resorting to man tools...

The kids all drank the juice out of the coconut with straws

and covered their ears while Jeremy smacked the thing with a cleaver

Shockingly, none of the kids liked coconut!

Can't say I blame them... I can't stand coconut!

Iris' 1st Birthday Party

We had Iris' 1st birthday party on Saturday

everyone had pizza and cake

Iris had her very own smash cake

She was very excited about it, until everyone started singing.

I couldn't sing. I was laughing so hard at the scared look on her face...

She was really happy to get the cake, because she wanted to play with the candle

once she realized it was cake though...

After cake there were presents. Iris got toys and clothes.

Once she realized there were toys, she decided she was done opening gifts.

We had a fun fun time, thanks to everyone who came!
