Keeping Vigil

Every evening at about 7:25 I tell the kids it's time to watch for Daddy.

Iris likes the coffee table under the window so she can see.

They sit on the table, and Iris chants "Da-da, Da-da", while Eli asks loudly of each car that drives by "Is that Daddy?!" There is often a stirring rendition of "I'm So Glad When Daddy Comes Home"

When Daddy comes home, they run to the garage to kiss him, and Iris steals his badge - it is a pretty necklace.

  1. Whenever David heres the garage door open he thinks it is Daddy. He is starting to learn that the garage door opens for other reasons too.
