Denise and I spent four hours last Thursday making jam.
We made 31 pints, and stopped because we ran out
of jars, sugar and pectin (but not fruit!)
Strawberry-rhubarb. mmmMMMmmm!
I love rhubarb in jam, but I always spread it on my toast
and then wonder, "why are there onions in this?"
My rhubarb plant barely noticed we cut any.
I guess I'd better make more.
yummy yummy!

ReplyDeleteRhubarb is botanically classified as a vegetable; however, in the United States a New York court decided in 1947 that since it was used in the United States as a fruit it was to be called a fruit. A side effect was a reduction in taxes paid
LOL!
I never used rhubarb, so it's likely that you never have eaten it. Mrs. Garton brought some down once and we fed it to the goats. Then she brought some more with some recipes and I think I gave that to the goats, too. I sort of remember that the goats didn't like it either.
ReplyDeleteBut strawberry rhubarb is tasty. My mother used to make strawberry rhubarb pie and strawberry rhubarb jelly.
And wasn't there an epic battle using sword of rhubarb at one point????
